The Hungarian Charity Service of Malta is establishing social rental apartments in the 300 poorest settlements. Two thousand social rental apartments will be created with the support of the European Union in the program called Catching Up Settlements, the charity service announced.

It was recalled: in September 2022, the Hungarian Maltese Charitable Foundation won support for the implementation of the project entitled Construction, renovation and improvement of living conditions of social housing.

The amount that can be used in the development period of the Széchenyi Terv Plusz 2021-2027 is HUF 50.896 billion in non-refundable support. The source of costs that can be accounted for by the European Union is the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), but domestic funds are available for expenses that cannot be accounted for by the European Union, but are essential for implementation, they wrote.

They added: according to the plans, two thousand social rental apartments will be established in the 300 settlements involved in the catching-up settlements long-term program by June 30, 2026, partly by building new properties and partly by renovating and modernizing the houses in the settlements. The rental and management of the social rental apartments will be carried out by a social housing agency, and the tenants will be selected through a tender.

In addition to the establishment of social rental apartments, the program also aimed to improve the living conditions of people living in the poorest settlements. In the most dilapidated residential buildings, they carry out life-threatening interventions, contribute to tidying up the living environment of the poorest households, remove waste, and, if necessary, enclose unfenced properties, they wrote.

It was also announced that the foundation will issue tenders to civil organizations participating in the implementation, and will sign a grant transfer contract with the winners for the implementation of the undertaken activities.
