The decade from the change of government in 2010 to the outbreak of the coronavirus was the best ten years of Hungary's past century, said Gergely Gulyás at the Hungarian 2022-2023 event of the Fundamental Rights Center.

The Minister in charge of the Prime Minister's Office, accompanied by Director General Miklós Szánthó and Strategy Director István Kovács, said about the experience of the parliamentary elections that, in contrast to previous years, the opposition - despite its personal conflicts and worldview differences - remained united until the elections. However, this was a coalition without content, created solely to gain power, while their candidate for prime minister was woefully unfit for the task.

This does not mean that he would not have been the most suitable of the other politicians competing with him in the wreck derby, he stated.

The minister emphasized that voters appreciate the effective governance of Fidesz-KDNP, which was also evident in the spring. As he said, the key to efficiency is that the party alliance is united and not burdened by the series of conflicts typical of Western coalition governments. According to him, in other European countries, even external forces through the smaller coalition government parties can make this efficiency impossible.

He also touched on the fact that the governing forces in Western countries also want to conform to the media, traditional popular parties such as Fidesz - which have deep social roots - have disappeared.

- The choice of topics by the Western European media is mainly influenced by the American media. The diversity of the Hungarian press - including the existence of a real conservative press - is not only a complete freedom of the press, which is unique in Europe, but also a guarantee of sovereignty, he noted.

Speaking about the economic consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Gergely Gulyás emphasized that

the energy crisis is caused by the war and the failed EU sanctions.

- The foundations of the Hungarian economy are stable thanks to the measures taken since 2010. There is no threat of a rise in unemployment, the economy is not in a bad situation. However, the increase in energy prices places enormous burdens on the state and causes balance problems. Even in this situation, the main goal of the government is to protect families and households, he said.
