Security policy expert György Nógrádi talked with the host of the event, Bence Rétvári, the parliamentary state secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, about the development of the Russian-Ukrainian war so far and its global effects as part of the civil evening in Vác.
Due to the protracted Russian-Ukrainian war, the migration pressure on Hungary continues to increase. According to György Nógrádi, when the war can end depends on whether there is a Russian-American agreement. György Nógrádi also said that we must protect Hungary's southern border. While Romania is avoided according to the security policy expert, the number of illegal border crossings in Hungary this year exceeded 235,000.
Bence Rétvári responded by saying that the number of illegal border crossers has doubled this year compared to last year, and this also causes additional costs in domestic prisons.
But if I look at the total cost of illegal migration, it is already 650 billion forints, more than one and a half billion euros, to which the European Union did not even contribute two percent," said the state secretary. He added that Hungary is currently a creditor of the European Union.
"We protect the border together, some countries help, as policemen come from Austria or the Czech Republic to jointly protect the Hungarian border, but the overwhelming majority of these costs are covered by Hungary, and the EU does not pay for the protection of the external border, and stopping illegal migration is it is not possible without the protection of external borders," added the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior.
