Faith, history, the mother tongue and national unity feed "the flame in our hearts", said Gergely Gaal, ministerial commissioner of the Prime Minister's Office, on Sunday at Hősök square, at the central event in the motherland on the occasion of Székelyföld's Autonomy Day.

Gergely Gaal put it this way: without this flame, the nation could not have survived the rampage of the Tatars, the oppression of the Turks, the dismemberment of the country, the tragedy of Trianon, the horrors of the World War or communism.

The ministerial commissioner also drew attention to the fact that with faith and action even goals that often seem unattainable can be achieved.

He added that since 2010, under the leadership of the national government, "we can again feel that we are a strong nation", and this is not only in the interest of Hungarians, but also of the entire Central European region. This is clearly demonstrated by the help provided to Romania during the coronavirus epidemic, said Gergely Gaal.

Zsolt Németh, the Fidesz chairman of the Parliament's foreign affairs committee, emphasized that although much progress has been made in the past thirty years,

the Romanian state still does not recognize Székely autonomy. Supporting the aspirations of the Székely people is an "elementary task" for "us, the natives" and the Hungarians of the world, and even a constitutional obligation according to the new constitution, he said.

Zsolt Németh put it this way: the people of Székely deserve recognition for not only standing up for their own autonomy, but also for launching the European citizens' initiative on national regions. One and a half million signatures were collected, the verification of which is nearing the end, he added.

He said: they expect the EU to accept the citizens' initiative, to enable the creation of national regions and to make them equal with other regions throughout Europe.

At the event organized by the Székelyföldért Társaság and the Pro Civitate Dei Association, Árpád Incze, the president of the Székelyföldért Társaság, called it especially important that - since the events cannot be held in the usual way in Romania this year due to the coronavirus epidemic - to light watch fires for the autonomy of Székelyföld in several places in the motherland on the last Sunday of October.

Attila Dabis, the foreign affairs representative of the Székely National Council, emphasized:

Székelyföld does not renounce its demand for autonomy, adding that this goal does not violate Romania's territorial integrity or its constitutional order.

And János Benedek-Huszár, the mayor of the town of Barót in Kovászna county, declared: the people of Székely must receive the means of self-determination that were promised on December 1, 1918, but have not been given to them in full in the 103 years that have passed since then.

Before the event held at Hősök Square, the XXII. the district municipality also lit a guard fire in support of the autonomy aspirations of the Szeklers, Zsolt Németh also participated in the event.
