It was presented by the first, III. Pound banknotes depicting Britain's King Charles at the Bank of England on Tuesday.

Banknotes depicting the new monarch will go into circulation from mid-2024 to replace paper money depicting Queen Elizabeth, which will nevertheless remain legal tender, the central bank announced.

On the front of the new 5, 10, 20 and 50 pound banknotes, made of polymer, Károly's portrait will be visible through a transparent "security window" that makes it difficult to forge the banknotes, apart from this, the banknotes will remain the same as those featuring Queen Elizabeth.

"This is a significant moment as the King is only the second monarch after Queen Elizabeth to be featured on banknotes," said Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey.
