Dmitro Bondar, the deputy head of Ukraine's State Service for Extraordinary Situations (DSSNSZ), has been suspended because of a souvenir received in Ukraine that exploded at the Warsaw police headquarters last week, Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski announced on Tuesday.
Kaminski wrote on his Twitter page that, according to his information, criminal proceedings have been initiated in Ukraine regarding the explosion of a souvenir given to General Jaroslaw Szymczyk, Polish Chief of Police, and Bondar has been suspended.
As reported by 2022 plus , Szymczyk received the gift that exploded last Wednesday in Warsaw during his working visit to Ukraine on December 11-12. The chief of police suffered minor injuries and was discharged after a short hospital stay.
On Monday, Szymczyk told the Polish public service TVP Info in response to press reports about his possible suspension: he does not plan to resign in connection with the explosion. He also thanked Kaminski for his support in this matter. The Minister of the Interior ruled out the dismissal of Szymczyk, while government spokesman Piotr Müller made the deduction of possible personnel consequences dependent on the results of the investigation.
The chief captain told TVP Info: during his visit to Ukraine, he met with his office partner, Ihor Klimenko, as well as Szerhij Kruk and Dmitro Bondar, who run the DSZNSZ. At both meetings, he was given a used grenade launcher tube, according to his partners, empty and inoperable. (??? – the ed.)
Szymczyk told the Polish daily Rzeczpospolita on Monday that he wanted to move one of the items brought from Ukraine in a room next to his office in Warsaw on Wednesday, and when he lifted it, the pipe exploded.
According to the DSZNSZ announcement quoted by the Ukrainian news portal Ukrinform on Monday, the gift was given to Szymczyk out of gratitude. " We are convinced that there was no question of malicious intent, " they wrote. Poland already asked the Ukrainian side for an explanation last week.
The case is being investigated by the competent Polish services and the prosecutor's office. The Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office's statement on Thursday mentions three people, including Szymczyk, as persons who suffered damage.
2022 plus:
What can be said to that? According to the Polish media, Szymczyk himself accidentally activated the grenade launcher in his office, in violation of strict safety regulations. So this "he wanted to move the grenade launcher" nonsense is pretty weak.
And the general must have learned by now that if he doesn't understand something, he shouldn't poke fun at it. Even if he got it from the fraternal Ukrainians, no.
