The Ukrainian government aims to organize a summit on peace by the end of February next year, preferably by the UN, with the mediation of Secretary-General António Guterres, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba said in an interview with the American news agency AP on Monday.
Kuleba said that Ukraine will do everything to win the war against Russia in 2023. He added that diplomacy always plays an important role.
"All wars end diplomatically. Every war ends as a result of what happened on the battlefield and what was achieved at the negotiating table," he said, adding that Ukraine would like a summit to take place at the end of February, around the anniversary of the start of the war.
"The UN would be the best facilitator for this, because this is not about favoring any country. It's about really getting everyone involved,” he said. When asked whether Moscow would be invited to this summit, he said that it would first require Russia to be brought before an international court for war crimes. "This is the only way you could be invited," the Ukrainian foreign minister stated.
Kuleba emphasized that António Guterres has already proven that he is an effective mediator, an effective negotiator and, above all, a person who sticks to his principles and integrity, so they would like to see his participation.
In the interview, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister also mentioned that he is "perfectly satisfied" with the results of the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to Washington last week. He revealed that the United States had promised that the Patriot air defense missile system could be put into operation in Ukraine in less than six months as part of a special procedure, the training required for its operation would otherwise take roughly a year.
2022 plus:
"Si vis pacem, para bellum!" That is, "If you want peace, prepare for war!" says the wisdom attributed to Publius Flavius Vegetius. But somehow it doesn't follow that "If you want peace, don't negotiate with your enemy". Nor is it "If you want peace, make war". And that is roughly what we can conclude from Kuleba's statement. He wants a peace conference, but without Russia. What?!
The Ukrainian foreign minister also wants this meeting to take place under the auspices of the UN, under the command of Secretary-General Guterres. But what would they discuss if Russia could not participate? Maybe about how to destroy the Russians?
Before anyone starts shaking their fists, thinking that we are "pro-Russian, propagandists of Putin", we would like to kindly bring to your attention that we also consider Russia to be an aggressor. We are not on their side, but this does not mean that we unconditionally accept and support Ukrainian ideas. We stand for one thing: peace. However, such a peace does not exist (this is also proven by the peace decree after World War I, which we had the misfortune to experience after a disaster called Trianon), which pushes any of the warring parties into an impossible situation. It can only end badly (see World War II).
There is no doubt, by the way, that any decision made under the authority of the United Nations would change the course of the war. The "world organization" that was once formed with good hopes has now degenerated into an assembly that accepts illegal migration as a human right, unconditionally supports abortion, and places LGBTQ rights before the right of children to develop normally, and the role of Secretary General Guterres in this cannot be underestimated in the slightest. Would he be the right person? According to Kuleba, yes, because he is a "principled" person. The only problem is that he insists on principles that are unacceptable to normal thinking people.
And if all this wasn't enough, the Ukrainian foreign minister hopes - admittedly, only covertly - for the continuation of the war. After all, the savior Patriot air defense missile system will arrive in six months, and then another year before the Ukrainian soldiers can learn to use it. Translated into Hungarian, this means: they want to go to war for at least another year and a half...
There is no excuse for Russian aggression, but there is an explanation. And the cause is called: NATO. The military organization that, despite its written and verbal promises, continued to expand towards Russia, that left without a word the omission of the provisions of the Minsk agreement, and whose controlling force is indisputably the USA. Again, this does not excuse Russian aggression, but it does explain it.
After that, the question remains: what kind of peace is Ukraine preparing for? How could an agreement be reached (if the Russians were included) when NATO did not comply with what was agreed upon? Now why would anyone believe that it will be followed in the future?
Knowing all this, it is even more important, the basic interest of civil society to stay out of it all. Let's pray that this will be successful.
