The men's prison in Morpeth, a small town in northern England, has come under fire for not providing make-up products for transgender inmates. During a random inspection by the prison inspectorate, the "unprecedented violation" was revealed. The report stated, among other things, that the prison "provides inadequate support to minority groups". Prison managers practiced self-criticism.

According to the prison watchdog, there was no regular consultation with prisoners who "identified as non-binary, gender fluid or transgender", who expressed dissatisfaction because "their situation is not improving".

During the inspection, it was found that

it is difficult for inmates to get make-up and women's clothes in prison.

It was also confirmed that the leaders did not prioritize equality and diversity enough, and did not pay enough attention to the living conditions of protected and "minority" prisoners - Daily Mail reported. they wanted an opportunity to meet in the prison that "gave home" to 1,348 people, but they did not get it.

An inmate quoted in the report said the prison only deals with the majority and "neglects the minorities".

Prison leaders, as usual, exercised self-criticism and stated: “ We fully recognize that some areas need improvement, particularly diversity. Since the inspection, we have been working to develop and implement an action plan ”.
