Austrian Minister of the Interior stated

Gerhard Karner - together with Chancellor Karl Nehammer - spoke on the occasion that Serbia suspended visa-free travel for India from the beginning of the year, thus easing the migration pressure. Both welcomed this move, pointing out that the agreement signed by Karl Nehammer with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in November played a role in it.

"The migration brake is in effect," said the chancellor, referring to the agreement.

Gerhard Karner drew attention to the fact that the mentioned close cooperation is a decisive factor "in the fight against the human trafficking mafia".

According to the Austrian Ministry of the Interior, 18,000 asylum applications were submitted by Indian citizens in Austria last year. According to data at the end of November, only 33 of them received refugee status, and almost 3,500 applications were rejected. 8,750 procedures have not yet been closed.
