The representatives of the party of the American president, Joe Biden, and the politicians of the Democratic Party, voted all the way for their own candidate, the eventual loser, Hakeem Jeffries, who later officially became the leader of the lower house faction of the Democrats in the minority. With this, he is the first politician of color to hold the leadership position of a party in the congress.
The 435-member House of Representatives is the legislative body of the United States of America, the lower house of the bicameral American Congress. To put it simply, only those laws that are accepted by the House of Representatives can go before the upper house, the 100-member Senate - which is headed by the current vice president, but his role is almost symbolic, he can only vote in the event of a tie. The Speaker of the House is a particularly important position in American politics, in addition, he is the second in the order of presidential succession after the Vice President, that is, if neither the President nor the Vice President are able to perform the duties of the President - for example in the event of death or resignation - then the President of the House of Representatives automatically becomes the United President of the United States with full powers.
In other words, it could even happen that although the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of one party win the presidential election held every four years, if they are prevented, the politician of the other party becomes the American president in the given cycle. Of course, the chance of this is small, it has never happened in the history of the USA. Currently, for example, the Democratic Party gives the president and vice president, but due to winning the midterm election, the Republican Party gained a majority in the lower house, so a Republican politician became the speaker.
