The daily newspaper Metropol deals a lot with topics that affect the people of Budapest, so it inevitably comes face to face with complaining capital residents, who have been bullied by Gergely Karácsony, the mayor of Budapest. The politician's decisions, or the implementation of his ideas, often caused outrage among the city's residents. The paper has now collected the 10 most scandalous measures of 2022.

1. The "bleeded" Metropolitan Municipality started the year with millions in rewards

Gergely Karácsony and his team repeatedly referred to the fact that the capital does not have enough money because it does not receive enough support from the government. On the other hand, the premium was distributed at the beginning of the year based on the principle of "every saint's hand turns to himself". The Gyurcsány branch, Imre Mártha , for example - as Gergely Karácsony's favorite person - became richer by HUF 5 million. Balázs Barts rewarded with the same amount of money .

2. Dismantled bins, then a confession

Metropol was the first to report that Gergely Karácsony dismantled 3,000 public trash cans in Budapest, citing savings. The decision did not have many benefits, but its negative consequences were all the more so. Waste and overflowing garbage cans became a constant sight on the street. Later, several left-wing politicians admitted that this was a wrong decision on the part of the Metropolitan Municipality, and even Gergely Karácsony quietly admitted his mistake by secretly putting back 150 bins this year in various parts of the capital.

3. After the garbage scandal, garbage delivery strike

A few months after the wormhole, the news broke like a bomb that the garbage haulers at the FKF Ecseri út site went on strike, and the waste began to cover the public spaces at lightning speed. The FKF workers, who practice an important but little-appreciated profession, stopped work for three days. Gergely Karácsony appointed Imré Mártha as their leader, whose  ostentatious life , luxury trips and million-dollar watches are the exact opposite of what his subordinates, who are struggling to make a living, want to achieve for themselves. The Gyurcsány branch also came to the meeting with an expensive luxury car and a HUF 2 million watch, and wanted to pay off the trash-talkers with a one-time gross allowance of HUF 200,000. They did not accept this.

4. The case of Gergely Karácsón and the fake Klitschko

The mayor revealed himself in a June Facebook post when he announced that he had been the victim of a scam. Because he had a video call with the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaly Klitschko , but later it turned out that he wasn't talking to the real politician, but just two Russian comedians beating up  the leader of Hungary's capital. By publicly admitting that he was superseded, he tried to minimize the political weight of how easily some people were able to deceive the politician with a digital manipulation (deepfake video).

5. Brutal increase in the price of parking

It is already a well-known fact that Gergely Karácsony almost goes on a car chase during his reign, he implements a series of measures that can interfere with the traffic in the capital, and usually the drivers drink the juice. Whether it was the illogical road closures or the idea of ​​a bicycle lane on the boulevard, they were all a nail in the coffin of car traffic. Traffic jams became regular due to the renovations started at the same time, and even on top of that, the reorganization of the parking zones arrived.

In September of this year, the cold shower hit the motoring community, the hourly parking fee in the inner districts increased to HUF 600, and the need to exchange tickets was postponed until 10 p.m. In addition, in the inner districts, you can only park your car for a maximum of 3 hours. In addition, the size of paid zones increased by a total of 10 percent.
