The fate of not only Ukraine, but also the whole of Europe, will be decided in Russia's war against Ukraine, so the German government must support the country fighting for freedom in every possible way, including armored personnel carriers, the Polish Prime Minister declared on Monday in Berlin.

Mateusz Morawiecki, as the main speaker at the celebration organized for the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the parliamentary work of one of the most respected German politicians, Wolfgang Schäuble, dismissed the basis of the European Russia policy since the end of the Cold War, rapprochement, and the encouragement of democratic and market economy changes through the strengthening of trade relations.

As he said, he is "friends with the devil" who makes agreements with Russia. Many people chased illusions in the last three decades, but Poland spent centuries "in the shadow of Russian imperialism", so it clearly sees that the independence of Ukraine, the Baltic states and Poland is incompatible with Russian imperial interests, explained the Polish Party of Law and Justice (PiS ) conservative party politician at the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) event.

He emphasized that Ukraine should also be supported for the sake of "European survival", since Ukraine is also fighting for "freedom and our future" by defending itself against the Russian attack.

Therefore, the German government must help the Ukrainian armed forces with all "vital" weapons, so that armored personnel carriers "cannot stay in the warehouses" either, Mateusz Morawiecki was quoted as saying by national public television ARD.

The Polish government recently indicated that it would support Ukraine with up to a tank battalion - a unit of 14 vehicles - with German Leopard-2 combat vehicles if other countries join the initiative. After Poland, Finland and Spain also indicated their willingness to hand over Leopards to Ukraine.

The Lepodard-2 is considered the most powerful armored personnel carrier in the world. According to expert opinions quoted in the German press, the appearance of such vehicles in large numbers could significantly influence the course of the war.

The German government has a decisive role in whether Ukraine receives the aid, even if the German army (Bundeswehr) does not hand over any such vehicles to Ukraine, and the manufacturer - the consortium of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall - does not deliver either. , because according to the legislation on military exports, these vehicles can only be sold abroad with the permission of the government, and Berlin's consent must also be obtained for this, if the buyer were to transfer Leopards to another country.

Robert Habeck, the head of the Ministry of Economy, which oversees military exports, said in a briefing on Friday about the Polish initiative that "Germany cannot stand in the way of countries deciding to support Ukraine, regardless of what decision Germany makes." Chancellor Olaf Scholz has not yet commented on the issue.
