The head of the ministry reacted to the fact that the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) banned the use of flags depicting Great Hungary in matches organized under the auspices of UEFA, as the symbol was classified as exclusionary by FARE.
In response to a journalist's question at his press conference, the head of the department stated that FARE is "practically an organization of voluntary workers' watchdogs, whose members live to report people in a completely insane way" . "These people have probably never enjoyed a football game, they never go to stadiums to enjoy themselves, but to see what can be reported, " he said. " They clearly have no idea about history. To denounce us because the so-called flags depicting Great Hungary are displayed in a stadium shows a complete lack of historical knowledge," he added.
In this regard, Péter Szijjártó emphasized: " what we describe here as Great Hungary is a historical fact, it is not revisionism, it is not a threat to our neighbors, it is not nationalism".
He then brought up as an example that his children's history atlas also have pictures depicting Great Hungary. "At the next match of the Dunakeszi City Sports Association, will the FARE inspector tear out this picture from every child's history atlas? ” he asked.
The minister called the organization's activities nonsense and expressed his hope that the president of the European Football Association (UEFA) " will free European football from this labor watchdog organization, because they have only caused trouble and will continue to cause trouble ." " It's clear that they have no idea about the world, and they don't have the faintest idea about Hungarian history," he pointed out.
