On Tuesday, the Cities for the rule of law event took place along the already well-known left-liberal panels in Brussels. At the event, Gergely Karácsony demanded the strengthening of the tools created to protect the rule of law. According to the mayor's ally, Hungary poses a threat to the EU. The press department of the capital was contacted by the Magyar Nemzet about the event, but for now they are silent on the details of the trip.

- The tools created to protect the rule of law are weak and their application is slow - said Gergely Karácsony the Cities for the rule of law conference in Brussels.

According to the mayor of Budapest, this, among other things, made it possible for a "hybrid regime" (referring to Hungary - ed.) to be established within the European Union. Gergely Karácsony believed that Hungary is very far from realizing the expectations that the European Union expects from the countries waiting to join.

However, the mayor did not talk about specifics.

He believed that Budapest, as well as most European cities, better meet the requirements of the rule of law and democracy than central governments. In those countries where the rule of law and democracy struggle with deficits, the capital cities represent the island of the rule of law, he said.

The cities are exposed to attacks, among other things, by withholding the allocation of EU funds , he explained. Since these cities have reached the limits of their functioning, the restoration of the rule of law has not only theoretical but also practical significance. That is why the cooperation of the European capitals is necessary for the distribution of EU funds at the local level, added the Mayor of Budapest.
