Whoever has a flair for 21st century technology will find his place in the national defense, Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi told Magyar Hírlap. In connection with the recruitment campaign launched the other day, the head of the Honvéd General Staff said that economically backward areas will not be avoided during the campaign either. Interview:
- Who is the main target group of the recruitment campaign?
- We welcome everyone who meets the requirements. The law specifies that anyone between the ages of 18 and 65 can apply. Of course, we want to appeal primarily to young people, since the goal is to create a strong, effective and fresh force. We live in an age of danger, war is raging next door, security has become more valuable. To strengthen Hungary's security, we are organizing a modern, youthful, effective national defense.
- Do the younger age groups "try out" the army?
"Much more yourselves." They say that almost everything is decided in the head. In other words, this is the place for those who can physically withstand the strain and like challenges.
– And what about those who, for whatever reason, are unable to run a certain distance for a level time, but want to be soldiers? Moreover, would the national defense need their knowledge?
- We cannot relax the health requirements, as they have become the way they are in order to preserve the physical and physical health of future - and active - soldiers. On the other hand, physical endurance can be improved a lot. There are targeted programs for this. At the same time, those who have certain health problems can find their calculation as a national defense employee.
– Are there major professional groups that they explicitly "desire" to join?
- There is no such. The rotation is continuous - in line with this, there is also a constant need for replenishment. Of course, regardless of our intentions, there are hit and/or miss professions. Such is the case with our IT staff, for example. At the same time, it must be stated that those who have a flair for 21st century technology will surely like the environment that awaits them here. It is enough to think about the modernization of the armed forces that is taking place before our eyes, as part of which the national defense is enriched with the latest equipment.
"In the past, most people wanted to be gunners..."
"...and pilots." But today, even a single armored personnel carrier has more and more complex electronics than used to be the case with an entire battery. From anti-aircraft missiles to simple small arms, computing is everywhere, and it's all a challenge.
"What is the minimum level of education?"
"Eight is general." Of course, the same thing happens with us as in civilian life. That is, if someone has a higher education, it is easier for him to move up the ranks.
"Do they help those who want to learn?"
- For those who have an obvious desire for self-education, we create the opportunity for further education.
- One of, if not the most, pivotal point in choosing a career among young people in our time is the amount of salary and other benefits. What can they offer in this area?
- I think that you can support a family in a dignified way from the military allowance. The data is open, so anyone with their qualifications can scale themselves up on the salary list. Among the additional benefits, I would highlight the housing allowance. Within the national defense, there are special garrisons - for example, tanks are concentrated in Tata, and air defense is concentrated in Győr. That is, we provide housing there.
"And family support?"
- In accordance with the government's guidelines, we also provide extensive assistance to soldiers in this area. But I could also mention the support for commuting to work, free sports and health care.
– How attractive is the possibility of serving abroad?
- Those who pass the training - and if they have the basic English language skills at the required level - sooner or later can go to foreign missions, which can be useful in all areas later on. And there is one more "little thing" here: I am referring to the fact that the door is also open to university and college students through study contracts. We believe that the scholarship program has been attractive so far, and Hungarian students should also consider this route.
– What do the statistics show besides all this? What are the most attractive professions within the armed forces?
– We measure exactly what they expect from us, and we try to adjust the offer accordingly. Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, the popularity of a given sector has changed over time. Of course, the fighter pilot is still on the podium, but thanks to the new technology, tanks and artillery are also coming up nicely. And then there are the special powers, which are surrounded by some attractive mystique. One thing is for sure, once someone sees the beauty of any military profession, it will be difficult for him to get rid of them for the rest of his life.
– Does the recruitment campaign also affect counties that do not perform well economically?
– Of course, we want to address interested people from all walks of life and the country. I can promise everyone a fair, correct and respected career. We welcome anyone who likes challenges, has a vision for the future, and would be happy to train either at home or in a mission.
