Today, February 22, is World Scout Day. On this occasion, we asked Szilárd Csémi, the executive president of the Slovak Hungarian Scout Association (SZMCS).

On February 22, the World Scout Day, around fifty million scouts in 216 countries celebrate the important day, which is called Thinking Day - the Day of Remembrance. On this day, the members of the organization wear scout clothes, thereby signaling to the world that they belong to the big family of scouts. In 2021, Scouting was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Remembrance Day is the joint birthday of Robert Baden-Powell of Gilwell, the founder of Scouting, and his wife Olave, the founder of Girl Scouting. Both were born on February 22, Robert in 1857 in London, Olave in 1889 in the market town of Cheterdfield, England.

Scouting is a voluntary, non-political child and youth education movement that is open to everyone, regardless of origin, gender, social and financial status, or religion. Its purpose, principles and educational methods were defined by its founder, Baden-Powell, 114 years ago.

The movement uses a non-formal education method, teaches and educates playfully. He prefers outdoor activities, closeness to nature, forest and water life, tours and sports. Scouts experience summer camping as the culmination of the whole year's scouting work. Since one of their characteristics is to cover up social inequality, they wear uniforms with scout ties, scout hats or other headgear. Their distinguishing mark is the scout lily stylized in different shapes. Greetings, Good work! Their password is Be on the move! They shake hands with the left hand.

The two largest umbrella organizations are the World Association of Boy Scouts (WOSM) and the World Association of Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). The organization that brings together the Hungarian Scouts of the world is the Foreign Hungarian Scout Association (KMCSSZ), which is the scout organization of Hungarians living outside the Carpathian Basin.

In connection with the significant day, Csémi Szilárd, the executive president of the Slovakian Hungarian Scout Association, nicknamed Kismedve, said the following:

The biggest movement of the year is VI. It will be the Federal Grand Camp, which was last held in 2017. Unlike the previous camps, our big camp is organized by age group. In other words, guards of the same age will make up the sub-camps, divided into three age groups: 10-12 year olds, 13-14 year olds and 15-18 year olds. Time of the camp: it will take place between July 25 and August 4, 2023 in Ipolynyék (Vinica). We are also happy to see adult helpers at the big camp.

So far, more than 500 people have applied, they are members of our Association, but the member associations of the Forum, i.e. the members of the KMCSSZ operating in the diaspora, the scouts from Transcarpathia, Transylvania, Vojvodina, Croatia and, of course, the motherland were also invited. Their application is still pending.

"Here, in the Uplands, we offer all interested parties the opportunity for children and young people to unite on the basis of a common set of values, not only for the sake of their own small community, but for the sake of the Uplands and all of Hungary through their local work, using their own means and opportunities. "

On the occasion of Boy Scouts' Day, here is the last message of the father of Scouting, Lord Robert Baden-Powell, known as Bi-Pi:

"Make others happy, then you will be happy yourself!"
