scandal has not yet subsided , but their new anti-Hungarian measure is already here: the Romanian Supreme Court annulled the government decision that declared György Sepsiszent to be the official symbol of the flag approved by the municipality of Székelyföld in 2021. The justification: György Sepsiszent's flag does not contain elements that would represent Romanians, who make up 25 percent of the city's population, and they also complained that the city flag contains the colors of the Székely flag.

According to the order made in the administrative department of the court on Tuesday - published on the website of the institution on Wednesday - the judges found the appeal of the Bucharest government and the city council of Sepsiszentgyörgy to be unfounded and, thus, the basic decision of the district court in Brasov last April, which upheld the two Romanian citizens who objected to the flag, became legally binding. organization's objection.

On the proposal of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (RMDSZ), the Bucharest government adopted the resolution on the city flag of Sepsiszentgyörgy - with gold and blue stripes and the town's coat of arms in the middle. According to the description, the settlement's coat of arms is shaped like a shield, with the castle and the church in a blue field, above it a golden Sun and a silver Moon. In front of the castle, there are three green fields, on which you can see St. George on horseback and the dragon, which gave the settlement its name.

Against the officialization of the symbol classified as " monoethnic".

the Civil Forum of Romanians in the Counties of Kovászna, Hargita and Maros (FCRCHM) initiated court proceedings, in which the Civil Association for Dignity in Europe (ADEC), which has initiated hundreds of lawsuits against Hungarian symbols and inscriptions, also intervened. According to the point of view of the two NGOs

György Sepsiszent's flag does not contain elements that represent Romanians, who make up 25 percent of the city's population, and they also complained that the city flag contains the colors of the Székely flag.

Árpád Antal expressed his incomprehension regarding the Supreme Court's decision and indicated that the licensing procedure would be restarted. "We fully complied with the law. We believe that the city's flag is not monoethnic, and those who objected to the flag,

in fact, they objected to the coat of arms, which was approved by the government in 2007 and also received the approval of the National Heraldic Committee. We will restart the licensing procedure, as only the government decision was annulled, not the municipality of Sepsiszentgyörgy"

- the news portal Maszol.ro quoted the mayor of the Székelyföld city.
