70 years ago, on February 24, 1953, the Stalinist terror apparatus murdered one of the most prominent Polish military leaders, General August Emill Fieldorf (alias Nil). On the occasion of this sad anniversary, he will be primarily remembered at the event organized as part of this year's National Day of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldiers, which will take place on March 9 with the participation of excellent Polish historians.
Guests of honor: Tadeusz Płużański, Stanisław Płużański
Date: 09.03.2023. (Thursday), 6:00 p.m
Location: Polish Institute – 1065 Budapest, Nagymező u. 15.
Fieldorf is one of Poland's iconic heroes: in 1918, he participated as a legionnaire in the struggle for independence, he fought throughout the Polish-Soviet war between 1919-1921, and during the Second World War he was the founder and commander of the "Kedyw" unit responsible for diversionary operations of the Home Army.
At the end of the war, he was captured by the Soviets incognito, and after returning home from the Ural camp in 1948, he accepted the amnesty offered to the partisans and reported to the communist authorities.
However, the state security agents, who announced the amnesty to ensnare members of the resistance who were still illegal, arrested him and then tortured him, but they failed to break him, so in the end he was sentenced to death in a conceptual trial, like many of his colleagues.
He was the highest-ranking Polish military officer who was murdered by the pribeks of the Stalinist regime in the infamous Rakowiecka Street prison in Warsaw. To further humiliate the general, he was executed by hanging.
