According to the President of the National Assembly, the European Union and NATO are not taking steps towards peace, but are increasing the escalation of the war in Ukraine. László Kövér also spoke on Hír TV Napi on Friday night about the fact that the Hungarian parliamentary delegation will visit Finland and Sweden next Tuesday and Wednesday regarding the NATO accession of the two states.
László Kövér said that the Hungarian parliament has received many criticisms for only recently putting the NATO accession of the two northern countries on the agenda, and for the fact that a delegation is only now traveling: Hungary is a sovereign country, its parliament sets its agenda at its own discretion.
According to his assessment, a heck campaign is taking place, Sweden and Finland cannot be members of the North Atlantic Alliance until Turkey agrees. This will probably not happen until the Turkish elections. He added that the summer NATO summit could be the one where they can invite the two states to become members after full ratification.
He noted: the visit of the delegations is necessary because the members of the government factions had concerns and doubts, they do not consider the issue to be resolved automatically.
In addition, an international situation has developed around Hungary, which does not hurt to clarify and make it clear that our country is a sovereign member of both NATO and the Union. He entered these organizations of his own volition, and they do not believe that the past decades have changed his position within the federal system.
Politicians who have behaved towards Hungary in recent years in such a way that our enemy would have been rude to them are now asking for support - the Speaker continued. It must be made clear that we are asking for this procedure, they have no right to interfere in Hungarian politics - stated László Kövér.
He noted that the normal functioning of a federal system involves trust, which was thoroughly undermined before accession.
Regarding the support of Finland and Sweden joining NATO, he said: this is not a matter of good manners or sensitivity, since these countries have inflicted selective insults on Hungary over the years, they are causing specific, measurable damage to our national interests. Pressure is being put on European institutions so that they do not pay the EU subsidies due to Hungarians, underlined the President of the Parliament.
According to the Speaker of the House, the "good service" delegation traveling from Hungary will meet the Swedish and Finnish Speakers, the specialized committees of the two countries and the foreign ministers of both states on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The delegation is led by Csaba Hende (Fidesz), its member is Zsolt Németh (Fidesz), the chairman of the foreign affairs committee, and they are joined by Enikő Győri and Ernő Schaller-Baross from the ruling party.
László Kövér also touched on the fact that the armies of the two countries are well-prepared and well-equipped, and with their accession, NATO's military and deterrent power will be strengthened. At the same time, NATO had practically no border with Russia until now, now with the accession of Finland, a direct land border of 1,340 kilometers will be created. This increases the risk of a future military conflict, he pointed out.
The military budget of the member states of the European Union is five times that of the Russians, so the accession of the two countries is of negligible importance compared to what happens in the reduction of the sense of security.
He also spoke about the fact that NATO and EU states have now sent more than 60 billion dollars worth of lethal military equipment to Ukraine. This means that some member states of NATO and the Union - not yet as combatants, but - have become part of the war .
The danger is immeasurable, one can discover an eerie similarity with the period before the First and Second World Wars, said László Kövér. He added that peace basically depends on the two warring parties. Neither the Union nor NATO are taking steps in the direction of peace, they are increasing the escalation of the war, he emphasized.
He stated that it is necessary to sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible, end the killing, and reach a compromise that takes into account both Ukraine's territorial integrity and Russia's security expectations.
Regarding the fact that Brussels would continue the rule of law procedure against Hungary, he said: the tone, wording, and emphasis are very similar to the last years of the Soviet occupation, only the values of the labor movement have been replaced by European values, and the Brezhnev doctrine has been replaced by the Jourová doctrine.
Regarding the expected tightening of the Child Protection Act, he stated that a complex, calm approach is needed. In addition to criminal law, this issue also affects educational institutions and the media. In connection with the latter, the regulation of media that are not based in Hungary but broadcast here should be reviewed, he indicated.
The Speaker of the National Assembly emphasized that the Child Protection Act needs to be completely reconsidered, and the emphasis should be placed on prevention, not on subsequent sanctions.
László Kövér called this issue an area of sovereignty where there is nowhere to retreat.
