Church schools all over the country have started preparing for the visit of Pope Francis to Budapest. There is an institution from which hundreds of people are expected to go to the Papp László Sports Arena, where the Holy Father will meet especially young people. The head of the Catholic Church will make a pastoral visit to Hungary between April 28 and 30.
Pope Francis' first journey after his arrival on April 28 will lead to the Alexander Palace. President of the Republic Katalin Novák ceremoniously welcomes him, and then he meets with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
On Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m., he will meet with priests and monks in Budapest's Szent István Basilica. The event can also be watched on a projector. On Saturdays, he visits children with disabilities, and then welcomes the homeless, those fleeing war and the poor in Rózsák Square. And in the Papp László Sports Arena, he meets thousands of students.
The 9th grade students of Szent József Elementary School and High School in Debrecen are preparing for the papal visit with a song. According to them, it is a great opportunity to meet the Holy Father.
With one heart, one soul
Many students from the Debrecen school also participated in the 2021 World Eucharistic Congress in Budapest, where they listened to the Pope. This spring, more than 400 people from the school travel to the capital.
"Meeting the supreme leader of our religion in our church can be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for everyone. It is important for the deepening of faith. It is important for him to see that many of us are present with one heart and one soul," explained Zoltán Bódis, head of Szent József Elementary School and High School. They expect a huge crowd
The biggest event will be on Kossuth Square, where the Holy Father will celebrate mass. Everyone from Hungary and the surrounding countries is invited to the event. The organizers expect a huge crowd. According to the plans, several projectors will be placed in the area, so everyone will be able to participate in the Holy Mass.
Pope Francis will return to the Vatican on Sunday evening, but before that he will also visit Pázmány Péter Catholic University. András Veres, president of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference, told M1:
the visit of the Holy Father is a huge value for Hungary in itself.
"After all, at that time he wants to visit not only the Catholics living there or the believers, but also the country in question, so he also meets its political, social and political leaders, and of course he addresses people from many areas of pastoral life at this time," emphasized András Veres, bishop of Győr County, the president of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference.
