It is extremely important that there is peace in Ukraine as soon as possible - emphasized János Árpád Potápi, the State Secretary responsible for national policy at the Prime Minister's Office at the II. Ferenc Rákóczi in his online welcome address to the participants of the international scientific conference organized at the Transcarpathian Hungarian University on Thursday.

The state secretary emphasized that Hungary continues to support the implementation of investments that promote the preservation and prosperity of the Transcarpathian Hungarian community in its homeland.

The Hungarian nation is crisis-tolerant, and this is especially true for the Subcarpathian Hungarians, said János Árpád Potápi, referring to the theme of the international conference entitled "Effects and Challenges of Crisis Situations in Education". The Secretary of State responsible for national policy reminded that the Transcarpathian Hungarian community was actively involved in helping and caring for refugees in the interior of Ukraine, and its members "as full-fledged Ukrainian citizens want to participate in the reconstruction of post-war democratic Ukraine, where the previously existing minority educational and linguistic rights will be restored".

The key to staying in the homeland is education in Hungarian, he underlined, since "in kindergarten and school, the rising generations strengthen their mother tongue, culture and identity".

János Árpád Potápi emphasized that it is extremely important for Hungary to have peace in Ukraine as soon as possible. Hungary is interested in neighboring Ukraine becoming a sovereign, balanced, democratic state of law, where national minorities, including the Transcarpathian Hungarian minority, can live safely and peacefully in their homeland. The State Secretary responsible for national policy reminded that

"Hungary has provided and will continue to provide all assistance to the members of the Transcarpathian Hungarian national community".

The National Policy State Secretariat of the Prime Minister's Office continues to provide predictable operating support to Transcarpathian ecclesiastical lyceums, civil and professional organizations performing educational and cultural tasks, and II. Ferenc Rákóczi Transcarpathian Hungarian University and its institutions, he declared.

In order to mitigate power outages caused by airstrikes, the Prime Minister's Office supported the independent energy supply of Hungarian educational institutions in Subcarpathia in the amount of HUF 100 million, and with the support, generators, power generators, convectors, and portable hot air blowers were purchased.

In 2022, more than 5,000 applicant education workers received support. János Árpád Potápi confirmed that the State Secretariat for National Policy will once again announce the tender for the Subcarpathian social program package this year.

Russian Ildiko, II. Ferenc Rákóczi, president of the Transcarpathian Hungarian College, told representatives of the Hungarian-language press that despite the war, the Rákóczi Days event series, which has become a tradition since 2006, was held, an integral part of which is the two-day international pedagogical conference. Among the crises affecting education, the Russian-Ukrainian war is the most serious, he said, but the crisis of national minority education in Ukraine began with the adoption of the education law adopted in 2017.

The Transcarpathian Hungarian Pedagogical Association and college are constantly looking for and developing forward-looking professional solutions, but political will is needed to resolve the crisis, Ildikó Orosz pointed out.
