According to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Russia's war against Ukraine may last several years. On Friday, at the readers' forum of the conservative newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) in Frankfurt, the social democratic politician, when asked how to interpret his repeatedly repeated statement that Russia cannot win and Ukraine cannot lose in the war, explained that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his country makes territorial demands based on "identitarian" ideas and commits "imperialist aggression" against a neighboring country, thereby endangering the European peace based on the consensus on the prohibition of changing borders by force.
That is why it is necessary to prevent the peace decree or the freezing of the conflict, through which Russia, albeit unofficially, with the recognition of the international community, but practically still annexes a part of Ukraine in an imperialist way.
All this means that Ukraine cannot lose and cannot be a Russian peace dictate, and of course it also means that the withdrawal of Russian troops is inevitable, said Olaf Scholz.
When asked whether the Russian troops should also be withdrawn from the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine, which was annexed to Russia in violation of international law in 2014, he explained: Germany's task is not to negotiate on behalf of Ukraine and consider what kind of solution might be acceptable, but is to stand up for Ukraine and provide support for self-defense.
As he said, he is not very happy with the advice on what kind of concessions Ukraine should make for peace.
Great restraint is needed in this matter and rather it should be made clear that we will do everything we can to maintain our support as long as necessary. This is an important undertaking, as it is possible that the war will last two, three or even four years, and it will put a heavy burden on all of us, added Olaf Scholz.
Among other things, he spoke about his government's efforts to curb irregular migration based on so-called migration partnership agreements.
Here, he voiced his opinion that although some politicians, such as former US President Donald Trump, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán or others, can make horrible statements about refugees, they also have nothing to do with asylum seekers who do not have the right to stay, if the country in question does not accept them back. the people.
According to him, the only realistic chance of a solution is a migration partnership agreement with countries of origin and countries of transit. In these agreements, Germany opens up the possibility of regulated, legal immigration for employment purposes in exchange for the readmission of people who do not have the right to stay in Germany, explained Olaf Scholz.
