The year starts with good news for the elderly: soon everyone will receive the increased pension, said the prime minister's representative Zsolt Nyitrai in a video uploaded to his Facebook page on Saturday.

The politician emphasized that the civilian government led by Viktor Orbán stands up for the interests of the elderly: so far they have received a pension premium 5 times and have also received back the 13th monthly pension taken away by the left.

He added that the Women 40 program will continue this year and the retirement age will also remain unchanged.

"Pensioners can count on the Hungarian government this year too!" - said Zsolt Nyitrai.

In the video, Zsuzsa Hulák, a member of the Council of the Elderly, said that instead of the planned 5.2 percent pension increase, those affected will receive a multiple of that, 15 percent, as of January.

In addition to old-age pensions, the increase also applies to relatives' pensions, he indicated.

This means that anyone who has an old-age pension and also receives, for example, a widow's pension, will receive the 15 percent increase for both benefits, explained Zsuzsa Hulák.

He considered it important to draw attention to the fact that the 13th monthly pension coming in the near future is also included in the increased amount. It is reassuring news for pensioners that the government is thinking of them in this situation as well, said a member of the Council of the Elderly.
