Sándor Csányi, President and CEO of OTP Bank and President of the Hungarian Football Association, received the highest Hungarian honor, the Order of St. Stephen, from President Katalin Novák in the Sándor Palace on Friday in Budapest.

According to the MTI report, Sándort Csányi was nominated by the Head of State, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, for his exceptionally versatile life work that strengthens Hungary's good reputation, his decisive role in the creation and development of a stable banking system that serves the competitiveness of the Hungarian economy, his successes as one of the most prominent Hungarian business leaders in the Central European region, the in recognition of his commitment to national values ​​and interests, his exemplary life in supporting Hungarian culture, education and sports, as well as talent management, he was awarded the Order of Saint Stephen of Hungary.

In her speech before the presentation of the award, Katalin Novák highlighted: intellectual achievement can only be truly achieved if there is economic power, so that an idea becomes a reality, a blueprint becomes a building, and research becomes a discovery.

When economic performance is at the service of the spirit, the cultural performance of an age can be strengthened, he added.

According to the head of state, there is little governmental will for all of this; the personal decision of those who move the economy is necessary, we need economic agents who think, act, and are capable of implementation. And above all, we need an indisputable achievement, an economic force that can be put to the service of spirit and morality, he noted.

Katalin Novák added:

THE AWARD RECOGNIZES SÁNDOR CSÁNYI'S SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY BESIDES HIS ECONOMIC SUCCESSES, HIS LIFE HAS SERVED THIS COMMUNITY IN A THREE MEANING.

Sándor Csányi is unquestionably a part and source of the strength of the Hungarian economy: OTP is not only a dominant player in Hungary, but also one of the few Hungarian economic players that can stand its ground on the international market.

He is also present as a patron in the lives of Hungarians: he supports worthy causes and achievements worthy of recognition in the fields of culture, science and sports.

And thirdly, he creates opportunities for those who start out with a disadvantage, and together with his wife, Erika, he seeks out talented young people living in difficult situations - listed Katalin Novák.

In his acceptance speech, Sándor Csányi said: he was in an exceptional position with the award of the Order of Saint Stephen of Hungary, as receiving Hungary's highest state award is a special thing. The recipient emphasized:

HE HAS SERVED IN MANY POSITIONS IN THE PAST DECADES, BUT HE ALWAYS PLACED THE INTERESTS OF THE COUNTRY BEFORE THE INTERESTS OF THE COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION HE LEADS.

According to MTI, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán Sándor Csányi, Cardinal Péter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, several members of the Hungarian government, dignitaries under public law and former honorees of the order received the Order of Saint Stephen from the President of the Republic.
