Hungary can be a model country, and the majority of Westerners agree with us, said András Veres, president of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference (MKPK), to the National Catholic Register, Mandiner reports.

Pope Francis only stayed in our country for a short time on the occasion of the Eucharistic Congress, but when he left, he said that he would like to come back. The fervent crowd that welcomed him may have had a big role in this, the president of the MKPK told the American Catholic newspaper, and then added: for his part, he now wants to put more emphasis on the youth.

As he said –

we have to admit that the church is going through difficult times in Hungary. Atheism is caused by the atheist upbringing of children from kindergarten to university. Today, there are several generations that never received a Christian education. In addition, "the hedonistic way of life has arrived from the West, which strengthens disbelief in the country."

András Veres explained that during his travels he experienced that many people have a negative opinion of Hungary because of the media. He has many German-speaking bishop friends who ask him what is going on in Hungary, but when they visit here, they realize that they have received a lot of wrong information from the media.

"The fact that the leadership of the Hungarian church is labeled conservative, I think that is more of a compliment than an insult"

András Veres stated in response to a journalist's question. "If you take a look at why we are criticized, they are very basic things like, for example, the Hungarian government's rejection of gender ideology in schools, which the believers agree with." Most of the attacks, he says, come from small circles supported by political movements. "But in general, I think that the opinion of the majority of Westerners is close to ours," concluded András Veres.
