On his Facebook page, Gergely Karácsony drew attention to the fact that "one of the shortcomings of the bicycle network is that it is currently not possible to cycle safely on the sections of Váci út or Üllői út inside the Hungária ring, and in many sections the side streets do not offer an alternative."

He then added, "after the renovation of the M3 subway, the elimination of the subway replacement lanes will provide an opportunity to create bicycle lanes in the place of the existing bus lanes on these critically missing sections . The mayor believes that during the approximately six years of the renovation of the M3, drivers have already adapted to the changed traffic patterns of Váci and Üllői út, "a significant part of the transit traffic was looking for other solutions.

In this way, a total of nearly 6 kilometers of new, safe bicycle lanes can be designated along the two main roads without causing traffic disruptions," wrote Karácsony.

" The accessibility of parts of the city that are currently difficult to access from a bicycle perspective can improve"

"Combined with the existing cycle paths on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út and Kiskörút, the accessibility of parts of the city that are currently difficult to access by bicycle can be significantly improved.

Finally, critical points such as Nyugati tér would also become passable, the new lanes will form an extensive network together with the existing main and small roundabout lanes," the opposition politician explained the details of his plan.

"The Üllői út bicycle lane will create the missing downtown bicycle connection of Southern Pest, not only for the residents of the area, but also for the universities, medical institutions, business centers and office buildings located here," added Gergely Karácsony .
