Gergely Karácsony has threatened bankruptcy several times in recent years, but this has never happened - pointed out Dániel Deák, head of the XXI. Század Institute senior analyst.

It looks like Gergely Karácsony is now meeting Ferenc Gyurcsány's expectations to be more belligerent towards the government - Dániel Deák, XXI. Század Institute senior analyst the mayor's announcement on Wednesday . He recalled that the leader of DK recently indicated in a radio interview that he was not satisfied with Karácsony's performance.

Ismert, Karácsony announced today: the capital will not pay the full amount of the solidarity tax imposed on it. He put it this way: the Budapest self-government will suspend the "financing" of the government in the coming months. He emphasized that the crises and government austerity made the capital's financial situation extremely difficult. "Without a package of measures, we wouldn't even be able to make it through this year, and the financing of the city's public services is in jeopardy," he added.

"Kárácsony - as it has done several times in recent years - is once again facing bankruptcy,

however, this never happened, the mayor; he's just running a political prank campaign"

said the analyst.

"The DK is now unavoidable in the decision-making process in the capital, several socialist mayors have switched sides with the Gyurcsánys in the past period, moreover, in order for Karácsony to retain his position, he needs the support of the DK", answered the analyst when asked why the mayor wants to comply with the to the President of DK.

"And if there is a favorable election result for the left in Budapest and Karácsony remains the mayor, then he will probably have to politicize with a capital assembly with a DK majority," he added.

The analyst sees it as:

the mayor has not been independent until now, but now his room for maneuver is narrowing even more,

although he talks about his independence, in reality he is a subordinate of Ferenc Gyurcsány.

In connection with the Christmas announcement, the Fidesz faction in the capital emphasized that the capital's tax revenues have increased significantly in recent years. In 2021, Budapest's income from business tax will be HUF 20 billion, last year HUF 30 billion, and this year HUF 76.4 billion more than previously planned.

Despite rising tax revenues, the Karácsonys have now increased the financial reserve, reducing it to HUF 25.5 billion, they wrote.

And to the planned non-payment of the solidarity tax, we would only add that we think the laws must be obeyed by everyone! - said the Fidesz-KDNP faction.
