"It is a somewhat childish attempt to try to tell people that Gergely Karácsony and his team have nothing to do with what has been going on in Budapest for almost four years," István Tarlós told PestiSrácok.hu in response to the fact that the Capital City Municipality was on the brink of bankruptcy. therefore, the mayor announced that they would sabotage the payment of tens of billions of HUF in solidarity taxes. István Tarlós emphasized in the video interview: even during the mayorship of Gábor Demszky, it was not typical for the City Hall to constantly dance on the edge of solvency.
"The threat of Gergely Karácsony is technically incomprehensible, because the city's tax accounts are managed by the Hungarian State Treasury, so there is no physical possibility for them to deduct the collected business taxes and not pay the solidarity tax," explained István Tarlós, who at the same time "really does not want the capital to go bankrupt , since it would have much more serious consequences than anyone dares to think about", moreover, since the regime change, no serious municipality has yet gone bankrupt.
According to István Tarlós, the solidarity tax cannot be criticized without being silenced: the capital's business tax revenue has increased by HUF 107 billion since 2019. PS recalled an interview with the former mayor, in which the current deputy mayor Kiss Ambrus speaks on Spirit FM about how "like all people, the capital also regularly exhausts its overdraft limit", and if they have to pay, the solidarity tax, there is no money left for daily operations.
About Ambrus Kiss, I didn't even know he was in the world until I read that he was deputy mayor. Imagine if I had tried to explain it like that! It is a childish attempt to tell people that they have nothing to do with what has been going on for almost four years. There is always the note of "why didn't Tarlós do it" or "why didn't the government give money?" This happens. Although I took over the operation of the capital with a deficit of HUF 73 billion, but 9 years later I handed it over with zero deficit and savings of HUF 200 billion. However, they are constantly struggling with operational problems. Something is very wrong here!
argued István Tarlós, Viktor Orbán's chief adviser and former mayor of Budapest, in the PestiSrácok.hu video program "Mi ágükünk".
