The police launched a special operation under the code name Vihar. A 21-year-old man is on trial. The police have surrounded his suspected location, and police helicopters are circling the area.

In a statement to the N1 portal, the police said that a detailed search of the suspect's hiding place is currently underway, as they were unable to capture the shooter in the dark of night and the difficult terrain. At five in the morning, the combing of the terrain began.

There are also special units of the police, anti-terrorist units, the gendarmerie, the Belgrade Police and the Smederevo Police, about 600 in total.

The attacker's motives are not yet known, some Serbian press reports say that the shooting was preceded by a fight in the school yard, and then the later attacker went home, took a rifle, and then returned and started shooting.

The bloodshed occurred two days after a seventh-grader shot dead eight of his classmates and the school guard, and injured six other students and a teacher in a primary school in Belgrade.

After the South Slavic wars of the 1990s, the civilian population also had a lot of weapons, with an average of 40 firearms per hundred inhabitants in Serbia. School shootings, on the other hand, occur very rarely in the country, and so far they have never been committed by a juvenile. The most serious rampage in recent years happened just ten years ago, when a man murdered 13 of his relatives in the village of Velika Ivanca, located 50 kilometers south of Belgrade.
