Starting in July, the basic salary of nurses and those working in non-medical fields of health care will increase by 18 percent, the State Secretary for Health of the Ministry of the Interior announced at a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday.
Péter Takács said that despite the extraordinary expenses caused by the war and the sanctions, the increase in the basic salary of healthcare professionals and those working in other areas of the healthcare sector - economic, technical, financial, accounting - will continue - in accordance with the government's previous commitment.
The government allocated HUF fifty billion for this year's wage increase, and the nursing wage increase affects almost 84,000 people, and 24,000 people in the technical field.
For this purpose, healthcare providers can apply for a support amount of HUF 57,600 per employee per month, which can be used for wage increases, he added. As an example, Péter Takács said that the current gross basic salary of a healthcare worker with a higher education (category F) who has been working for 4-6 years will rise from HUF 422,550 to HUF 498,600 on July 1, and in 2010 it was HUF 126,270. The current gross basic salary of a nurse with a higher education who has been working for 19-21 years will increase from HUF 493,690 to HUF 582,550 from July, this was HUF 149,150 in 2010, he explained.
The state secretary recalled that the last time nurses' wages increased in January 2022, and with the increase just announced, their gross basic wages will increase by an average of four times compared to 2010.According to the government's plans, the wage increase will continue "with a bigger step" in March of next year, he pointed out. "With this, the government will ensure that the gap between doctors and nurses does not open any further," said Péter Takács.
He reminded: the government implemented the last step of the wage increase agreement previously concluded with the medical chamber, so doctors' wages increased by another 11 percent from the beginning of this year.
