As committed supporters of the public, academic freedom, and free expression, CitizenGO would like to draw your attention to a recent case that not only raises serious concerns in the academic community, but affects us all.
The Mandiner the publication of Gergely Szilvay's previously accepted article entitled "A general critique of gender theory" .
In the petition, they call on the management of the Hungarian Psychiatric Association to give space to Gergely Szilvay's study in the journal Psychiatria Hungarica and to take action against the ideological censorship efforts that have appeared among the membership!
The publication would not only give a conservative author critical of gender theory the opportunity to freely share his scientific results, but would also contribute to the enrichment of academic debates and scientific research.
Gergely Szilvay's name is associated with the most detailed critique of gender theory and the efforts of the LGBTQ lobby written in Hungarian. After his doctoral dissertation on these issues, two books were published on the subject: "Gay marriage" and "Critique of gender theory".
The resigned editor-in-chief also told Mandiner that this "voting" was mostly based on the author's name, without all of them checking the content of the article. Tamás Tényi, who stood for free expression of opinion and academic freedom, was forced to resign because he did not agree with censorship and the unfair decision-making process, and he had no opportunity to prevent it.
We cannot let censorship suppress conservative scientific opinions!
We therefore call on the members of the Hungarian Psychiatric Association to:
- Please publish Gergely Szilvay's previously accepted study in your next issue!
- Respect academic freedom and fight to preserve it.
- Personal bias or ideological views should not prevent the publication of academic studies.
