It cannot be denied that in the last two years - due to the difference of opinion regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war - the feeling of the thousand-year-old Hungarian-Polish brotherhood has cooled somewhat. The reason is not unknown, we have a different opinion about the decisions related to the war than our Polish friends and this was not received too well.

This was true even when the Law and Justice Party (PIS) led the country and the situation continued to deteriorate under the semi-dictatorial government of Donald Tusk. Although the Christian-conservative PIS was a natural ally of the Hungarian government and a supporter of the community led by Jarosław Kaczyński, the network of Gazeta Polska clubs was closely linked to the Civil Solidarity Forum. Although this relationship has not ended, the usual events, i.e. the participation of Hungarian civilians in Krakow at the Polish national holiday, and the visit of our Polish friends at the wreath-laying ceremony in Budapest on March 15, have been missed for some time.

Is there a chance that the relationship with the PIS, which is now forced into the opposition, and with the Gazeta Polska clubs, which profess the party's ideology, will become closer again? We asked László Csizmadia, the founding president of CÖF-CÖKA, about this.

– I think there is absolutely no doubt that our relations will improve. We are part of huge historical changes, because for 80 years Europe has not had a war that can be safely called a fraternal war, there was no danger that the war could spread to other countries. Poles and Hungarians do not think the same about this conflict, the historical experience of the two peoples is different, so we should not be angry with the Poles. Unfortunately, the PIS government adopted a position that might not have seemed fortunate from the outside. The consequence: the previous ruling party won, but did not gain enough seats to stay in government. Some of the Polish voters may have turned away from the PIS because they do not want to participate in the war, but they were just wrong, because the Tusks are even more pro-war, only they are not actually against the Russians, but act as puppets of the European Union, its servile executors to the left-liberal instructions in Brussels.

– As civilians, we must notice how close Tusk is to Putin. Let's just recall a photo. When the entire Polish leadership lost their lives in the tragic plane crash, Tusk also arrived at the scene and, according to the photo, happily hugged Vladimir Putin. We don't want to be friends with him. The Poles share a 1,000-year-old mutual love, this relationship should be nurtured and not dismissed. The CÖF is in contact with 450 Polish clubs and their managers, and this has not changed despite the differences of opinion. Our brotherhood must be nurtured - and it may sound a little pathetic, but it is still true - so that the hearts and souls of our peoples are not harmed, so that we continue to feel that we belong together. And if this is the case, then politicians should also rethink their actions. We Hungarian civilians, together with our spiritual defenders, believe that the historical moment has come, when lessons must be learned and determined to what extent politics values the majority voice and will of the people.

- As I know Prime Minister Mr. Kaczinsky, this assessment will take place, the mistakes made - because everyone makes mistakes - will be corrected. I plan to write a letter to Mr. Kaczinsky with the support of our spiritual defenders, in which I offer to choose separately our different opinions about the war and to focus on the fact that Polish-Hungarian friendship existed, exists and will exist in the future. I am sure that wisdom will help PIS through the current difficult situation and win back its defected voters.
