The founder and CEO of Tesla, the owner of Twitter, published a post on the social media site on Monday ( we wrote about it here ), in which he compared the Hungarian-born investor-businessman to a negative character with superhuman powers from the X-Men comic book series.
The comment sparked a serious debate on social media and in the American media, to which Elon Musk responded by saying:
you wouldn't think that György Soros would be motivated by good intentions,
and stated that "Soros hates humanity" and his goal is to tear apart the fabric of civilization.
Following the comment, Elon Musk was accused of far-right rhetoric by the president of the American Anti-Defamation League. Jonathan Greenblatt, head of the civil rights activist organization, explained that comments like those made by Elon Musk strengthen extremists.
In an interview with the CNBC television channel on Tuesday, Elon Musk explained that
he maintains his opinion and added that he has the right to express his opinion because it is the essence of freedom of speech.
When asked if his comments could have a business disadvantage for his company, Tesla, the businessman replied: "I say what I want, and if it means losing money, so be it."
A senior Israeli foreign ministry official on Tuesday called Elon Musk's comments "anti-Semitic."
