Thousands of pro-life protesters joined the march for the protection of unborn children in Rome over the weekend.
On Saturday, thousands of pro-life Italians marched through the streets of Rome to encourage expectant mothers to "choose life" for their unborn child. The procession captured in the photos of the Catholic News Agency speaks for itself: it is led by young adults who, at the head of the "Demonstration for Life", proclaim on their banners:
"We choose life."Despite the rain, a good number of families and supporters marched - all age groups were represented in the ceremonial procession. It is festive, as the signs, balloons and flags proclaim: every human life is precious. The marchers also warned that abortions must be stopped.
Massimo Gandolfini , the leading organizer of the pro-life demonstration, told the press that the march raised its voice not only against the extermination of unborn lives, but in defense of all human life: they also oppose abortion, euthanasia and surrogacy, since the the child's interests come first.
According to Gandolfini, he is not a member of any political organization. As he put it, his "politicization" extends to the protection of life, the natural family, and the educational freedom of parents. Her organization wants Italy to create a national holiday for unborn babies and increase support for expectant mothers in need, so that fewer are forced to end their child's life.
In Italy, abortion is allowed for any reason for up to 90 days, but it is also allowed later in any case where there is a risk to the mother's physical or mental health, or there is a chance of the unborn baby having a developmental disorder. Abortion was legalized in the country in 1978, but many doctors still refuse to perform it in the predominantly Catholic country. Giorgia Meloni, was elected . The Catholic, pro-life politician said in an interview in March that he would like the government to provide more financial support to expectant mothers facing difficulties so that they "don't miss out on the joy of raising children."
