The second round of the presidential election was held in Turkey yesterday. The repeat was necessary because none of the candidates achieved an absolute majority in the first round. The President of the Turkish Supreme Electoral Council (YSK), Ahmet Yener, announced on Sunday evening: based on the almost final data, the incumbent Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won the second round.
In his press conference, the president of the YSK announced that with 99.43 percent of the votes processed, Erdogan is in the lead with 52.14 percent, the opposition candidate, Kemal Kilicdaroglu , the president of the Republican People's Party (CHP), according to this partial result, received 47.86 percent of the votes. . Given that the votes that have not yet been processed will not change this situation, according to the non-final result, Erdogan was elected as the head of state of Turkey.
By the way, Erdogan announced his victory earlier in the evening in Istanbul, referring to the partial results of the YSK with 75.42 percent of the votes processed, and thanked all the citizens who entrusted him with the management of the country for the next five years.
"I would like to thank each and every member of our nation who once again entrusted us with the responsibility of leading the country for the next five years. If God wills it, we will be worthy of their trust. As we were worthy 21 years ago, we will be worthy as well," he emphasized.
On Sunday evening, Viktor Orbán also congratulated the Turkish head of state on his re-election. He tweeted:
"I congratulate Mr. President on his unquestionable election victory."
