One of the strongest tools of the European Union, the continuation of the procedure according to article seven, is necessary because there is still a risk of systematic violation of European values in Hungary, stated Vera Jourová, the member of the European Commission responsible for transparency and values, in Brussels on Tuesday.

Vera Jourová , at the press conference held after the meeting of the ministers responsible for general EU affairs of the member states, emphasized that the procedure will not stop as long as the problems causing concern exist, as long as Hungary has not met the results required by the European Commission. Concerns still exist in the case of Hungary, he underlined. The procedure can be completed when the problems have been solved or when it is ensured that there is no longer a risk of a systematic violation of the EU's core values. "However, we are not there yet," he added.

He stated: the EU committee does not see any progress in the fulfillment of the proposals made regarding the elections, among other things, to ensure the independence of the ombudsman and the public service media. Hungary must also fulfill the required super milestones in order to draw on the recovery funds, he emphasized.

The European Commission is ready to help Hungary succeed in its efforts to implement the necessary reforms, he added.
According to his words, the procedure according to article seven is an important tool in the hands of the EU, because uncertainty and mistrust between member countries are growing. And the hearing held as part of the procedure provides an opportunity for the affected member states to clarify the situation, he said.

In September 2018, the European Parliament adopted a resolution in which it suggested that the Council, on the basis of Article 7, point 1 of the Treaty on European Union, state that there is a clear danger in Hungary of violating the EU's core values.

To a question asked in connection with the fact that the European Parliament is debating and then voting on a motion this week that seeks to prevent Hungary from holding the consecutive EU presidency in the second half of 2024, Jourová replied: it was not among the topics discussed by the General Affairs Council motion of the EP. The European Commission will act according to the EU treaties, he added.

Regarding Poland, Vera Jourová said that, despite some positive progress, many developments are a cause for very serious concern. Among these, the EU Commissioner mentioned the lack of ensuring the independence of the judicial system, as well as the failure to implement the judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union.

In connection with the fact that Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a new law on Monday, according to which a state commission of inquiry will be established to investigate Russian influence and pressure in the field of internal security and energy, Jourová said: the EU body is deeply concerned about the new Polish regulation. The European Commission is analyzing the new legislation and will take immediate action if necessary, added the EU Commissioner.

It would be nice if someone could tell us what European values are, instead of the foggy babbling. Because the ones we hear about these days are not in a grateful relationship, not only with European values, but also with any values. Illegal migration has never been and will never be a value, it is simply a violent invasion of the territory of the Union. War is not a value, but a tragedy, and the real value is not to support it, but to oppose it. Gender ideology is not only a non-value, but an anti-scientific aberration.

As for the European Commission's intention to help, well, we know what that means. They will tell us what we are obliged to do, and we would be slavishly obliged to carry out the orders.

Thank you, but if this is the help, then what can be the hindrance?
