Tamás Szárka's composition Kézfogas had been around for years before it exploded into the public consciousness and began to be referred to as an anthem of national unity.
This year, on the occasion of the Day of National Unity, Kossuth Award-winning performer Tamás Szarka is the mastermind of the joint singing together with hundreds of children in Veszprém, the Cultural Capital of Europe, on June 2 at 11 a.m. From this place, he joined the 553 institutions that sang Kézfogas in their locality at the same time.
An anthem of togetherness
Tamás Szárka's composition Kézfogas had been around for years before it exploded into the public consciousness and began to be referred to as an anthem of national unity. And every year since 2019, more than a hundred thousand people perform it together at the same time in the Carpathian Basin and around the world on the occasion of the Day of National Unity.
Every year there is a special location where Tamás Szarka, the author of the song and the announcer of the joint singing and dancing, is also connected to the event: in 2019 in Budapest on Kossuth Square, in 2021 in the Parliament at the Szent Korona, in 2022 on the Erzsébet Bridge in Komárom, this year, Tamás Szarka Szarka performed Kézfogs in Veszprém on the occasion of National Solidarity Day.
More than half a thousand institutions involved in the event will prepare and send their videos, which can be viewed on Tamás Szarka's Facebook page.
The organizers would like to thank all the kindergartens, schools, small and large communities and institutions that got involved, as well as the teachers who planted the seeds of national unity in the hearts of the children in this way.
Kézfogas is a song that has a place in the heart of every Hungarian.
