"It is good news for Hungary that Turkey still has a pro-peace president. Congratulations to President Erdogan!” Viktor Orbán wrote in his Facebook post on Saturday evening.
The Hungarian Prime Minister took part in the swearing-in of the re-elected Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as head of state in Ankara.
"We needed President Erdoğan's victory like a bite of bread. Moreover, he is pro-peace, if he had not won, then we would have had a pro-war Turkish president. Its consequences are unforeseeable. The Turkish president has a chance to mediate between the Ukrainians and the Russians, as he did with the grain crisis"
said the Hungarian Prime Minister in a video shared on social media.
The re-elected Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, was sworn in as head of state in the Turkish parliament on Saturday, marking the start of his third presidential term.
Erdoğan has been the head of state of Turkey since 2014. Previously, between 2003 and 2014, he was the country's prime minister. The authorization of the President of the Republic is valid for five years.
