At the moment, a "polycrisis" made up of several parallel situations is taking place in the world, the American billionaire stated in his author's article.
György Soros published his opinion on the opinion portal called Project Syndicate, in which he evaluates the situation in Ukraine in addition to the unconditional fight for the regulation of artificial intelligence and climate change.
According to Soros, the end result in the war that has lasted more than a year is much better than they expected.
According to the statistics portal Statista, the fighting in Ukraine resulted in 8,893 civilian casualties and 15,442 civilian injuries by June 4, 2023, according to other sources, well over a million refugees and now an environmental disaster, reminds Magyar Nemzet.
At the same time, Soros believes that the Russian army is nothing more than a paper tiger, and highlights the support of the Wagner mercenary group, but states that in the end they did not succeed in defeating Ukraine either.
According to the billionaire, Ukraine is ready to launch a counterattack as soon as the promised Western weapons - especially the F-16 fighter jets, which were even authorized by US President Joe Biden - arrive. According to Soros, the counterattack will be successful, and what's more, he describes the scenario of this "success".
According to him, the target of the Ukrainian counterattack will be the Crimean peninsula, the central base of the Russian navy. With the destruction of the previously damaged bridge connecting the peninsula with Russia, the Crimean peninsula can only count on water from Ukraine, so keeping the peninsula becomes a "strategic burden" for Moscow.
Soros believes so much in the counter-attack, which threatens with great human sacrifice, that he believes that as a result of the Ukrainian retaliation, the dream of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a rebuilt Russian Empire, may crumble and may no longer pose a threat to Europe or the world.
The end of the war in Ukraine will have a positive impact on the world, thanks to which even political tensions that have been going on for years and are not related to the Eastern European region, such as the China-United States relationship, can be eased, claims the billionaire speculator who, according to Joe Biden, the American president does not want regime change in China, he only wants to restore the status quo in Taiwan.
After all this, world leaders can focus on climate change, which threatens to destroy our civilization. But only a narrow and winding path leads to this result. That is why we do well to ask the question: can democracy survive the political crisis? - concludes Soros enigmatically.
