Pope Francis' hernia surgery was a success, his treating doctor announced. It is also fresh news that the Hungarian translation of the speeches given by the Holy Father during his apostolic journey in Hungary can now be read in Hungarian.

The head of the Catholic Church is awake and well, surgeon Sergio Alfieri announced on Wednesday late in the evening in connection with the fact that he operated on Pope Francis at the Gemelli clinic in Rome due to a hernia of the intestinal wall.

The pope was in such a good mood, he said, that he asked, "When do we do the third one?", referring to his third hospital stay since his election as pope.

After the three-hour operation, the doctor emphasized that Pope Francis has no other complaints and can leave the hospital within five to seven days.

Holy See spokesman Matteo Bruni said that Pope Francis thanked all those who showered him with good wishes and wished him a speedy recovery.

According to the Holy See, Pope Francis underwent a three-hour intervention at the Gemelli clinic in Rome for a hernia of the intestinal wall, which may have been caused by an operation performed in 2021.

Also Wednesday's news is that the Hungarian Catholic Bishops' Conference (MKPK) has also published in print the Hungarian translation of Pope Francis' speeches during his apostolic journey in Hungary, according to a statement issued after the body's regular summer session.

The conference encourages individual parishes, spiritual movements and church groups to make the thoughts of Pope Francis in Hungary the theme of their community events.

The bishops would like to express their special thanks to everyone who participated in the organization and conduct of the papal visit in any way, and they especially thank the representatives of the press for reporting on the events of the visit.
