On the evening of May 29, 2019, the Hableány cruise ship sank in a few seconds in the downtown section of the Danube, between the Parliament and Margaret Bridge, after the hotel ship Viking Sigyn hit it and overturned it.

A commemorative corner will be created in the territory of the Anti-Terrorism Center (TEK) in memory of the Hableány ship disaster, said János Hajdu, director general of the TEK, on ​​Sunday, at the commemoration held at the Pest bridgehead of the Margaret Bridge on the fourth anniversary of the ship's raising.

The leaders of TEK laid a wreath for the third time at the memorial erected near the scene of the tragedy. Along with János Hajdu, there were - among others - Police Colonel András Kovács, Deputy Director General, Police Brigadier Zoltán Szabó, Deputy Director General, Police Colonel András Horváth, Deputy Director General and Police Colonel Gábor Terjék, Registrar.

At the commemoration, the director general reported that the inspection procedure of the ship had ended, its dismantling had begun, so they received some parts, which will be placed in the memorial corner set up in the TEK area, as a symbol of the ship.

"There was a very strong will to create such a memorial there, it is important not only for the leaders present here, but also for all those who participated in the rescue"

- emphasized János Hajdu.

A tree sprouted from the hull

He said that during the procedure, a tree sprouted from the hull, they also received this tree and recently planted it in the TEK area, "it will continue to grow there". According to their plans, the tragedy will be commemorated at both locations from now on.

Seven of the 33 South Korean tourists traveling on the cruise ship were rescued, and the two-person Hungarian crew also lost their lives. A South Korean passenger is listed as missing.

The wrecks were brought to the surface with a ship's crane, the work was coordinated by TEK, and the extrication lasted seven hours.
