So far this year, there has been an average of one gunfight every day in the Scandinavian country.
The Swedish police union called for the establishment of a governmental crisis management committee. According to them, this is necessary because violence has become more and more prevalent in the country. Also this weekend, two people were killed and two others were injured in a shooting in Stockholm.
According to the statistics of the Swedish law enforcement agencies, conflicts with firearms are almost a daily occurrence.
"We see that now these shootings are starting to become dangerous not only for individuals, but for our entire society"
- reads the announcement of the police representation.
On Saturday, a 15-year-old boy and a 45-year-old man died in an armed conflict in the southern part of the Swedish capital. Another 15-year-old and a woman were injured. After what happened, two men were taken into custody, but the police still do not know the reason for the shooting. The union proposed the creation of a comprehensive committee to curb the violence.
In Sweden last year, the election promise to end violence in the Scandinavian state, which until recently was considered a model country of order and social harmony, put a lot of pressure on the victory of the right. The minority governing coalition, supported from the outside by the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats party, blames decades of failed integration policy for the unfortunate situation.
According to the police, 144 incidents involving firearms were reported until the end of May this year, which means an average of one shooting per day. The wave of violence claimed at least 20 lives in 2023. Last year, there were 391 shootings, in which 62 people died, while in 2021, 46 people lost their lives in such incidents.
