According to Bild journalist Julian Röpcke, the Leopard 2 tanks and Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers ordered by Hungary should be given to Ukraine as punishment for the fact that the Hungarian government agreed with Russia on the release of prisoners of war in Subcarpathia.

, published a very strong commentary on his Twitter account - Portfolio.hu drew attention to it.

Julian Röpcke, who has around 165,000 followers, regularly shares information, analyses, and comments about the events of the war in Ukraine, and now he did so in connection with the Transcarpathian prisoners of war.

He roars with territorial ambitions

According to the journalist, it is unacceptable that Hungary "made a deal with the enemy", that is, with Russia, without consulting with Ukraine or the Western allies, and accuses the Hungarian government of having territorial ambitions towards Ukraine.

According to Röpcke, our country should not be in NATO and the EU, he urges the German Ministry of Economy to

transfer to Ukraine the 44 Leopard 2A7+ tanks and 24 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers ordered by Hungary.

In his post, he also indicated the institution's official Twitter account.

Portfolio.hu pointed out that Röpcke is probably not aware that some of the Panzerhaubitze 2000s are already in Hungary and were taken over by the Hungarian Defense Forces.

The reception of the commentary generated mixed opinions among his followers

Several people drew attention to the fact that the Transcarpathian prisoners of war are not being held by the Hungarian government, as it claims, but that they can return to the territory of Ukraine at any time. Others criticize Germany for "protecting" Hungary against pressure from other, more assertive countries. Still others see it as:

Hungary has every right to protect the lives of its compatriots living in the territory of foreign countries.

The Hungarian Armed Forces are expected to start taking delivery of the first Leopard 2A7+ tanks in the summer of 2023, and the delivery of Panzerhaubitze 2000s has been underway since last year. The German government has not yet responded to Julian Röpcke's suggestion.
