Péter Márki-Zay's association, Mendiki Magyarországa Mozgalom, spent nearly HUF 1.7 billion during the election campaign, the investigation of the State Audit Office found. The control body 's partial report, obtained by Magyar Nemzet From taking the bus to their election event to waiting for the results, from campaign forums to sending text messages, from advertisements to flyers, money from the rolling dollars went to every kind of campaign. It is quite absurd that on the national holiday about independence, the left could pay for up to 90 percent (!) of its commemoration from foreign sources.
The story of the campaign song "A hatalom a népe" by the left - which eventually turned against them - is characteristic of last year's campaign. According to the report obtained by the State Audit Office of Magyar Nemzet, the organization of the extras for the video clip and the "stage performance" of the song cost HUF 853,440, and Péter Márki-Zay's movement paid for it. So not only the sheet music came from the United States, Patty Smith, but also the money needed to perform it. It is worth noting that Viktor Orbán used to say in relation to the politics of the left that "he who pays the bill, orders the note", reports Magyar Nemzet.
All of this is just one example from 117, which is Part VI of the partial report of the State Audit Office. is included in Annex no. At length, over pages, the control body discusses how the organization of Prime Minister candidate Péter Márki-Zay spent the money on the left's election campaign last year. It had already become clear that the Everyone's Hungary Movement received HUF 1,848,603,106 from abroad, from the organization of Gergely Karácsony's advisor, Dávid Korányi, Action for Democracy.
According to the National Information Center, the total amount of money received by the left from abroad exceeds HUF four billion.
According to Magyar Nemzet, the partial report found that DK, Jobbik, Momentum, MSZP, LMP and Párbeszéd "ignored the basic principle of good faith and proper exercise of law in the election campaign, circumvented the legal requirements by financing their joint campaign, in terms of limiting the amount of campaign expenses and campaign accounting." According to the control organization, since the six parties and Márki-Zay's MMM held joint events during the campaign, used joint posters, a common logo and unified election slogans, therefore MMM's "campaign-related activities and expenses were suitable for the election campaign and the elections influence".
Thus, the ÁSZ states that "the parties participating in the six-party alliance did not comply with the legal restrictions on campaign spending, the six parties and the Everyone's Hungary Movement together spent HUF 1,683.3 million more on the election campaign than the authorized amount".
At the same time, the SAO states that this is only a partial report and that it is conducting further investigations. That is, the mentioned amount may even increase.
The State Audit Office also revealed in detail the campaign expenses of the left - financed from abroad. Thus, it turns out that 860 million forints were paid for SMS campaigns, automated phone calls and advertisements appearing on social media, database construction and management. These are the activities that DatAdat, a group of companies run by the people of Gyurcsány-Bajnai-kör, carried out for them. The ÁSZ also separately examined the framework contract of assignment between DatAdat GMBH, i.e. Vienna-based DatAdat, and Márki-Zayék on March 17, 2022.
In addition to all of this, 324 million forints went to election rallies and campaign events from foreign campaign dollars. HUF 365 million were spent on election posters, handouts and other campaign tools. And if that wasn't enough, almost HUF 133 million was also spent on publications, such as the propaganda magazine promoted by Tibor Bödőcs, Yomtass Te Is! for the publication, which wanted to enlighten the "rural people" in a condescending way.
The almost 1.7 billion forints that MMM brought into the campaign of the left, largely from the rolling dollars, is also shocking because the so-called campaign limit, i.e. the legally spendable limit, was 1.177 billion forints, and the left-wing parties also legally spent 1.109 billion forints.
The majority of foreign money therefore means almost one-to-one exceeding the spending limit, which can have serious legal consequences according to the relevant legislation.
Although the Gyurcsánys and several other left-wing actors denied that they knew about the foreign campaign money, this is also impractical because in the case of the March 15 event, for some reason the parties (LMP, Jobbik, DK) gave 10 percent of the total expenses, while the Márki -Zay's movement financed 69 percent of the total amount, and "economic companies" 21 percent. It is worth noting that the left party's event on March 15 cost a total of HUF 383,173,914.
Absurdly, on the national holiday about Hungarian independence, the left could pay for up to 90 percent (!) of its commemoration from foreign sources.
It is important that the SAO's finding leaves open the question of what happens to the rest of the 1.7 billion forints and more than two billion forints worth of rolling dollars. Because "the companies involved did not cooperate with the SAO and did not provide data despite the request and the legal obligation. For this reason, an investigation is underway to determine whether they participated in the financing of the election campaign, thereby providing illegal support to the joint campaign of the six-party coalition".
Although the left lost last year's elections, a series of their advisers, administrators, researchers and back-up people made a lot of money from the campaign.
