A jousting tournament has already been organized in Nagyvárád on the occasion of the medieval festival, but this year the castle of the city on the banks of the Sebes-Körös will host the European premiere of the world championship.

According to the announcement of the organizers - i.e. the Nagyvárad Mayor's Office and Visit Oradea - during the July 6-9 festival, spear throwers will compete with each other; teams from France, Australia, Canada, England, Norway and Italy are coming to the World Cup, traditionally held in Australia.

During the competition, the fighters will wear medieval armor weighing 40 kilograms and duel each other on horseback with wooden spears weighing 20 kilograms.

These fast battles will test the speed and precision of the knights, explained the description of the event.

But the organizers didn't only think of men, as they will also present ladies' hunting games, during which they will be able to learn about swordsmanship, horse riding and archery.

Although the festival is held in Nagyvárad Castle, the opening on July 6 will take place at Szent László Square from 7 p.m., when the knights will also parade in front of the audience. During the three-day event, different thematic programs are organized in the castle from morning to evening, so for example this year too there will be craft activities and competitions, and children will have the opportunity to become a medieval hero.

There will be concerts in the evenings, including performances by Phoenix (July 8, 9 p.m.) and Omul cu Șobolani (July 9, 9 p.m.), but the band Hollóenek, which plays medieval music, is also expected to come to Nagyvárad.
