The Minister of Justice will lead the Fidesz list in the 2024 European Parliament elections, so he is resigning from his post, Magyar Nemzet reports.

In the interview with the minister, the newspaper wrote that the minister of justice did not want to confirm their information, because even the Fidesz presidency has to decide on this. However, it is certain that after the election he wants to represent the interests of the Hungarian people in the EP, and until then he will be actively involved in the campaign, and in order to do this with all his might, he will resign from his ministerial post.

Judit Varga hopes for the strengthening of conservative forces and will serve this purpose with her further work, the interview reads.

Among other things, the minister said that the 2024 EP elections now have a lot at stake: a conservative turn must be achieved in the European institutions, and he wants to take an active role in this.

He added that his undisclosed goal is to build many more alliances in the European relations system, and for this, European politics must be dealt with according to the main rule.

"We see a vibrant conservative movement unfolding across Europe. It must be based on this. I've always said that it doesn't matter who belongs to which party family, the point is that the disproportionate left-liberal predominance in the union must be overturned," he said.

According to the minister, he has completed all the tasks he undertook when he was appointed. In the past period, it was possible to conclude two major agreements in Brussels: "in December, we made a big step forward in the conditionality procedure, and in May we were able to conclude the justice package, all that remains is the implementation".

In the classic areas of justice, he is particularly proud that the national network of victim assistance has been almost completely built, his successor just has to cut the missing ribbons. In the field of family law legislation, much has been done to strengthen the rights of children and families in cooperation with the civil sphere and law enforcement officers.

At the time of his first appointment, a historic salary increase for judges and prosecutors was implemented.

"I feel that I can do much more in the future if my commitment to the interests of the Hungarian people now takes center stage in European politics.

From the point of view of the future of Europe, the campaign is now the most important thing: the European right wing, the conservatives, must be convinced that they can win this election. And this job requires a complete person," emphasized Judit Varga.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has taken note of Justice Minister Judit Varga's intention to resign, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister's press chief, informed MTI on Wednesday. He added that the prime minister nominates Bence Tuzson, the government secretary of the Prime Minister's Cabinet Office, to the position of minister of justice.

In the interview, he noted about the rule of law debates that there are those who see a kind of mission in these debates, like the people of the Soros network. This is their job, and of course that's why they say terrible things about us, he said.

"But I think - and maybe I'm optimistic - there are many among our international critics who take part in this misinterpreted fight for the rule of law, but who can be convinced by asking the right questions," he said.

He added that, according to his observation, some member states vote for certain decisions even if they are not good for them, but they trust that no one will punish them in exchange for the apparent false European harmony and behavior if they do not implement the decisions at home.

"The senseless imposition of an ever-deepening Europe will thus lead to disintegration and disintegration.

Honesty, a clear definition of the national interest and mutual respect are needed, because this is how the union can stay together. And then we return to what the European fathers invented seventy years ago, that the goal is not to oppress the states, but to open up a larger field of action for them, in which we are all successful, and we can also rejoice in each other's success," Judit Varga concluded the interview.
