The roots of the riots taking place in France come from areas where anti-Semitism is rampant, warned French-Israeli lawmaker Meyer Habib.
"This looks like an intifada in the heart of France"
Habib said. "France is on fire, 249 police officers have been injured. Nothing, not even the dramatic death of a young man, justifies this chaos."
According to Habib
"in these lost areas of the republic, hatred against France, whites and Jews has grown undisturbed for years".
Habib contrasted the reaction to the killing of the 17-year-old, which sparked the current riots, with the killing of Sarah Halimi, a 65-year-old Jewish woman who was murdered in her home in 2017 by a man shouting "Allahu Akbar".
“Sarah Halimi was beaten for 20 minutes in front of 20 police officers. His killer is practically at large and no one rioted or set fire to anything.”
- said Habib, who represents the French living in the Eastern Mediterranean region, including Israel, in the parliament.
But riots didn't break out even when French children in strollers were recently stabbed by a migrant.
