The teacher who deals with the children better and more will be paid better
Performance will be the main measure in the new teacher's career law: the teacher who deals better and more with the children will also receive a better salary, said the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior on the M1 current affairs program on Tuesday morning.
Bence Rétvári reminded
at the extraordinary session of the Parliament on Tuesday, it will decide on the proposal on the new career path for teachers,
which, if accepted, gives higher social respect and creates the basis for a wage increase. Part of this has already been anticipated by the budget, respectively
the entry into force of the bill itself results in a wage increase for young teachers who earn less, and for teachers working in disadvantaged areas, the latter can receive a 20 percent increase
he explained.
Enumerating the advantages of the bill, the state secretary said,
The number of holidays will increase from 46 days to 50 days, and instead of the previously mandatory 22-26 lessons per week, the number of lessons will be set at a fixed 24 hours, for the majority this also means a reduction in the number of lessons.
Bence Rétvári emphasized that before the submission of the bill, the government held numerous consultations with the trade unions, the public education council, the administrators, the parties and their experts, as well as the teachers and Brussels. "There really hasn't been a proposal that was preceded by a broader series of consultations," he added.
He noted
several of the proposals were included in the submission as a compromise solution.
According to the Secretary of State's view, in addition to reducing the number of hours per week and increasing the amount of holidays
administrative burdens on teachers are reduced,
which means that, for example, the time and energy spent on portfolio preparation and self-assessment obligations, which are no longer in each category, can be spent on the children by the teachers.
"We want to create a better school system for the children, this amendment to the law introduces performance pay," said Bence Rétvári, adding that those who deal with the children more and better will receive a better salary, and this can also be attractive to career starters.
The Secretary of State answered the question about the financing of the salary increase by saying
next year's budget foresees HUF 393 billion in additional resources for education, from which another 10 percent increase may follow.
The government wants to spend 800 billion forints from European Union and 5600 billion forints from budget funds for teacher salary increases until 2030, Bence Rétvári stated, noting that the arrival of EU funds is subject to the conditions of the left in Brussels.
"If the left had not been preventing us from receiving this resource for quite some time now, (...) it would have been with the teachers a long time ago," emphasized the politician. He added that if the left left things their way, then this wage increase could already be here, and as soon as the money comes, the 75 percent wage increase program will start the next day.
