No Hungarian gay will be better off if the big companies become rainbows for a month

Péter Ungár, the member of parliament of the LMP, a Facebook post to the protest of Just Stop Oil (an environmental activist group in the United Kingdom) at the gay parade in London. The politician informed that the organization demonstrated at the parade because, in their opinion, the organizers of Pride organized the event with the money of climate criminal companies.

Péter Ungár writes in his Facebook post:

“Just Stop Oil protestors disrupt Pride parade in London. They protested because the organizers of Pride organized the event with the money of climate criminal companies.

It is a fact that a significant number of global corporations use this kind of money to actually buy a rainbow-colored screen, #loveislove inscriptions and the rainbow marketing month, they want to cover up profit-driven environmental pollution, child labor, and the disregard for workers' rights.

Rainbow marketing is a cheap ticket to the "good side of history" without having to change anything in their operating models. Supporting London pride, buying a BP, Shell, Coca-Cola, Deutsche Bank molino is not a brave stance. There is no risk in the West, but here in Hungary, especially at Budapest Pride, there is not much either.

Launching rainbow campaigns in Moscow and Riyadh would be brave. We know that they don't or hardly do.

At the beginning of the gay movement, it was a very brave and smart thing to act against economic actors, to threaten them with a boycott. The success of the movement proves that the organization of consumers does have a role in shaping economic actors.

But what we see is different. That all big companies will be rainbow for a month is nothing but empty marketing. Not a single living Hungarian gay will be better off.

Just Stop Oil is right. Those who get rich by damaging nature do so even if their logo is rainbow for a month."
