I have to agree with former Socialist Prime Minister Péter Medgyessy on one thing, namely that the current Prime Minister has to face an incompetent opposition. This is also true for the expert background and their journalists.
As a lawyer, I watched with great interest the soap opera-like thrashing that the ladies and gentlemen mentioned above have been doing in recent days. The point is that on July 4, the Parliament elected Mária Ádám Haszonics, Réka Varga, András Patyi and id. Zoltán Lomnici. Instead of 444.hu jr. He inaugurated Zoltán Lomnici, the CÖF spokesman, as a constitutional judge, and later apologized to his readers.
The specialist committee deemed the personalities presented above suitable, and we could stop here, but the story does not end there. HVG and Magyar Nemzet reported on the meeting of the Parliament's constitutional affairs committee, mentioning more or less the same facts. It turned out that among the government candidates, Mária Ádám Haszonics was not supported by the representative of the opposition for moral reasons, Réka Varga was rejected due to professional incompetence, and András Patyi was not considered suitable for political reasons. Id. Lomnici was the only one who won votes from both sides. The DK did not take part in the vote, essentially making these arguments for the first three candidates.
In the meantime, the team of experts was not idle either. Zoltán Fleck, head of the ELTE department, pointed out that a person who accepts any nomination of the governing parties is a dishonest person, and the constitutional judges are scumbags. György Magyar, the disreputable lawyer, discussed the violation of professional ethics in connection with the nomination.
The journalists of the opposition also exposed themselves: in the case of Mária Ádám Haszonicsné, the Kaya Ibrahim case was brought up, in the case of András Patyi, the "punishing champion" comment became the main point, according to them Réka Varga has no professional ammunition, id. And Zoltán Lomnici owes his post to the creative legislation of the governing parties, since he turned 68 and if the governing parties had not abolished the upper age limit for constitutional judges a decade ago, he would not have been a constitutional judge.
The article published in Népszava, under the name Simon Zoltán, presents all the new constitutional judges as persons connected to Fidesz, although this claim is not supported by evidence. The paper points out that in the case of ordinary judges, the governing parties abolished the age limit of 70 years and after a legal struggle reduced it to 65 years. In contrast, a decade ago, the upper limit was abolished in the case of constitutional judges.
Of course, this may also be related to the fact that there are only fifteen constitutional judges, while the number of ordinary judges exceeds three thousand. Most states set different age limits for the two groups. The federal supreme judges of the United States, considered a model, stay as long as they see fit, there has been an 86-year-old active judge of the panel. Not to mention that Árpád Göncz became president of the republic for ten years at the age of 68, and Népszava did not object to the age at that time.
Returning to former Prime Minister Péter Medgyessy's statement, the opposition and its servants are really incompetent. The government side could have nominated anyone, it would not suit the opposition. Some have no or too little judicial experience, some have too much. I believe that the biggest headache for the opposition is It may have been caused by the nomination of Zoltán Lomnici, since he has not left the court since 1979, c. he is a university professor, a knight of the French Order of Honor and even has an anti-racist award. He is unfit for unspecified reasons…
